Permanent hair straightening is a perfect solution for those who have rebellious curls, wavy and frizzy hair but want shiny, vibrant and straight hair. It is a hair styling technique that involves flattening and straightening of the hair which is accomplished by the use of chemicals and hair flat irons. The most effective permanent hair straightening technique which made "boom" among stylist is Thermal Ionic hair straightening. It is a three-step system and is a permanent and effective solution to curly, frizzy and unruly hair. This three-step system consists of:

1. Lotion:  After hair has been washed and conditioned, a processed lotion is applied on the hair. This lotion softens curls by relieving the internal stresses of the hair.

2. Hot ceramic flat iron: With this step, hair is thermally reconstructed into a new straight configuration. A hot ceramic flat iron maintained at 170 to 230 C is used to press hair to achieve the needed reconstruction.

3. Neutralizer: The third and final step is the usage of neutralizer which permanently locks the hair into a straight configuration.

There are three types of  Ionic formulas available - Normal, Resistant and Tinted/highlighted/bleached.

Normal – For healthy virgin hair and hair that has been coloured with semi our permanent hair colours;
Resistant – For healthy and resistant hair that has been coloured with semi, demi or no lift permanent hair colours;
Tinted/highlighted/bleached – For healthy hair that has been coloured with more than 20 volume peroxide, bleached or double processed;

On average, the whole process of this permanent hair straightening technique takes four to five hours and may vary depending on the length, texture and curliness of hair. You should not shampoo your hair for at least 48 hours and avoid using rubber bands and hair clips as these can mark the hair. Hair remains permanently straight until it is cut off. However, new growing hair will feel and look normal, thus retouch maintenance is required. Usually retouching is done about 6 to 8 mouths after permanent hair straightening, depending on the hair growth rate.
